Curriculum

Class 1 CHORDS AND THE CIRCLE OF FIFTHS 

​

  • Chords. The different quality of chords and how to create them

  • How to identify the different qualities of chords.

  • Creating arpeggios from the chords.

  • How to create interesting chord progressions.

​

HOMEWORK: (Thursday)

  • Create a song based in an interesting chord progression. 

 

2. SCALES

  • Major and Minor Scales following the circle of fifths.

  • Using shapes in the scales to create interesting melodies.

  • Using the circle of fifths to create interesting compositions.

​

HOMEWORK: (Thursday)

Create a nice song whith an engaging melody following the things you have learnt in class.

 

3. THE MUSICAL MODES (Monday 13th of May)

  • The musical Modes and how to create interesting compositions based on them. Going ¨out of the ordinary¨

  • The emotions behind all the modes.

  • Applying shapes in the different modes.

 

HOMEWORK: (Thursday)

Create a modal composition using the scales we have learnt on class.

 

4. EMBELLISHMENTS, THRILLS AN ORNAMENTATIONS. 

 

  • How to make our melodies more interesting based on embellishments and thrills.

 

HOMEWORK: (Thursday)

Create a song with a melody which uses embellishments.

 

5.  THE RHYTHM 

 

  • How to organize the rhythm? The different time signatures and how to develop them.

  • Play with complicated rhythmic structures to create interesting grooves and melodies.

  • Syncopation.

 

HOMEWORK: (Thursday)

Create a song based on a complex time signature or that uses any irregular rhythm.

 

6. MOTIVES AND HOW THEY PROVIDE LOGIC AND CONSISTENCY IN A MUSICAL PIECE.

  • What is a motive in music?

  • How can we use motives to create interesting music compositions and songs.

HOMEWORK: (Thursday)

Create a song based on a motive.

​

7. SONG STRUCTURES AND HOW TO DEVELOP A MUSICAL IDEA. 

  • Which are the most common songs structures and how to use them to develope our ideas and create interesting projects.

​

HOMEWORK: (Thursday)

Create a complete song which falls into any of the music forms we have learnt.

 

8. REVIEW OF EVERYTHING. 

​

HOMEWORK: (Thursday)

  • Create a MASTERPIECE that embraces all the elements we have learnt.
